MTG Arena Murders at Karlov Manor ARG reward

This one isn’t technically a code, but itwas a way to get MTG Arena freebies in early 2024. Fans solved the ARG found in MTG Murders at Karlov Manor, and the reward was a bunch of XP and some new sleeves.

It’s hard to check whether a code still works when you’ve already redeemed it, and everyone at Wargamer cashed in on that sweet, sweet bonus. Many other codes that were available around the time that Karlov Manor released have now expired, so there’s a chance this puzzle solution is also out of date.

But just in case it isn’t, here’s the solution. First, create a deck that includes these cards:

  • 1 Extract a Confession
  • 1 Homicide Investigator
  • 1 Leering Onlooker
  • 1 Glint Weaver
  • 1 Granite Witness
  • 1 Meddling Youths
  • 1 Furtive Courier
  • 1 Case of the Stashed Skeleton
  • 1 Out Cold
  • 1 The Pride of Hull Clade
  • 1 Reckless Detective
  • 1 Novice Inspector

Don’t worry if you don’t own the cards; you don’t have to craft them.

Simply name this (invalid) deck ‘thewayisopen’, and you should receive 5000 XP and some exclusive sleeves.

How to redeem MTG Arena codes

There are two ways toredeem MTG Arena codes, and both are super easy. For the first method, open up the game on PC and click on the ‘Store’ tab at the top of the page.

From there, you’ll see a small oval text box in the top right corner, with ‘Redeem Code’ written inside (we’ve highlighted it in red in the picture above). Copy your code into the box, hit enter, and hey presto.

If you’d rather not boot up the game, you can also redeem codes by entering them into yourWizards of the Coast account page. Log in using your MTG Arena details, and on the right-hand side of your account dashboard, you’ll find a nice, big ‘Redeem a code’ box. Paste the code inside, click redeem, and you’re good to go.

Currently, you can’t redeem codes through the iOS and Android versions of the game. Instead, you’ll have to use your Wizards account page, or boot up the PC version of the game to unlock them.

Looking for theLost Caverns of Ixalan,Wilds of Eldraine, orMarch of the Machinecodes? There aren’t any! Simply log in to Arena, and the three free packs will be there in your inbox. Be sure to check this new feature regularly, chances are it’ll be your main way to collect free MTGA cards, Wildcards, or XP in future.

And, while we’re on that topic…

Are MTG Arena codes on the way out?

For a while, it feels like we’ve been in flux when it comes to MTG Arena codes. The introduction of the player inbox in December 2022 allowed Wizards of the Coast to send rewards straight to the players, eschewing the need for any codes.

That’s why we didn’t get any new codes for anyMTG setthroughout 2023. It seemed like a real shame for new players, who used to be able to sign up for the game and drop 20 or 30 codes, earning them a range of packs as a beginner’s welcome. And we even speculated that MTG Arena codes might be gone forever.

But as 2024 rolls on, we’re feeling a little more hopeful. In September 2023, the inbox system stopped working temporarily, but this was swiftly fixed. Since then, plenty of boosters, cosmetics, and XP gifts for all new MTG releaseshave been delivered via the inbox.

The codes in the list above still work, and Wizards of the Coastdoes sometimes still release new ones as part of specific promotions. For example, to promote the release ofMTG Lord of the Ringson MTG Arena, the company posed the “Speak, friend, and enter” riddle on its Twitter account – a riddle teasing the new Mastery XP code Mellor.

The 2024 Murders at Karlov Manor set gave some insight into how Wizards of the Coast might use MTG Arena codes going forward. Cryptic clues were sent to players’ inboxes, and an ARG puzzle was played out across social media and actual Magic: The Gathering products. With a bit of sleuthing, you could figure out some new MTGA codes to type in – and you’d get some XP and cosmetic card styles for your troubles.

These codes were short-lived (you’ll find most of them in our section on expired codes below). They were also thematically tied to the murder-mystery-style set, so we may not see quite so many codes to crack going forward. But it’s a sign that Wizards still has plans for MTG Arena codes, and more may be on the horizon.

How can I get more MTG Arena codes?

There arefourother ways to get your hands on additional working MTG Arena codes and items, beyond the main ones listed above. These are:

  1. Codes from physical MTG decks
  2. Promo codes
  3. Pre-release codes
  4. Secret Lair codes

Codes from physical MTG decks

However, you don’t have to rely on Wizards’ generosity to snag goodies. The physical Planeswalker decks released between the sets Guilds of Ravnica and Core Set 2021 each come with a code to unlock their cards in MTG Arena, so you can use all the same cards online as you do on the tabletop. These codes are one-time use only, though, so it’s best to buy new copies of the decks if you’re dead set on their digital counterparts.

These are all the physical MTG decks that include Arena codes:

  • Basri Ket, Devoted Paladin
  • Teferi, Timeless Voyager
  • Liliana, Death Mage
  • Chandra, Flame’s Catalyst
  • Garruk, Savage Herald
  • Vivien, Nature’s Avenger
  • Chandra, Flame’s Fury
  • Sorin, Vampire Lord
  • Mu Yanling, Celestial Wind
  • Ajani, Inspiring Leader
  • Ashiok, Sculptor of Fears
  • Elspeth, Undaunted Hero
  • Rowan, Fearless Sparkmage

  • Jace, Arcane Strategist
  • Gideon, the Oathsworn
  • Domri, City Smasher
  • Dovin, Architect of Law
  • Vraska, Regal Gorgon
  • Ral, Caller of Storms

TheMTG Starter Kitalso includes a code for its two decks, which can be redeemed by two different Arena players; granting both decks to you and a friend.

Be wary though, Commander and Challenger decksdon’tinclude MTG Arena codes, so don’t go buying those with the expectation of boosting your digital card collection.

MTG Arena promo codes

MTG Arena promo codesare special promotional codes, often handed out at tournaments, local game store events, or as part of giveaways by professional MTG players and streamers.

Wizards also sometimes includes codes in its MTG Arena newsletters, particularly around the release of a new set.

Occasionally, it’ll share a code via theMTG Arena Twitteraccount if something goes wrong on Arena, so keep an eye out if you spot technical troubles.

A recent (now-expired) code ‘CIRCUITMENDER’ after a period of downtime gave all users a free 1,000 XP, for instance.

MTG Arena pre-release codes

MTG Arena pre-release codescome with the decks you’ll get at official pre-release events for newMTG sets. If you’ve grabbed a deck at apre-release event, look inside your pack to find an Arena code. The rewards for these vary: you might find a cosmetic unlock, entry into a limited-run Arena event, or a handful of booster packs.

However, onlyonepre-release code of each set can be redeemed per MTG Arena account. So if you find yourself with a spare, why not do the honorable thing, and gift it to a friend, or stick it on Reddit for someone else to nab.

MTG Arena Secret Lair codes

MTG Arena Secret Lair codesare found in theMTG Secret Lairpremium boxed sets, and unlock exclusive cards and cosmetics. A pricey option, given the cost of each Secret Lair drop, but very chic.
